This course examines a new natural material used in architecture and construction: mycelium.
Mycelia technology for construction applications was discovered around 10 years ago but it is still in development. The aim of this course is to show the potential of one of the most fascinating organic alternatives and how it can become an affordable alternative in the near future to replace various
materials in construction.
Starting from a basic introduction to mycology and its physical properties, we will dive into the design and prototyping of mycelium-based material while working on our very own experiments.
This course provides the opportunity to get a complete overview of the matter and is structured in the following six modules:
MODULE I - Base of mycology
MODULE II - Biocomposite materials
MODULE III - Experiments
MODULE IV - Applications
MODULE V - What’s the future of this technology?
MODULE VI - Conclusions
