Course Description
Since the latest UNEP Food Waste Index
Report 2021 is highlighting that global food production and food waste is
one of the major contributors to climate change, we have to find new ways of sustainable food production, transportation, consumption, and how we are dealing with food waste.
In general, we have to seek
alternatives to the global, rural, and outsourced way of food production
and think about our diets. Which in consequence means: we have to
change the whole current food system.
This introduction focuses on raising awareness about the deeper meaning of the terms “Sustainable”, “Urban”, “Food” and “Systems” and how the current Food System is created.
Together we investigate the Food
Systems we are using and are part of and try to find ways to hack ourselves
into them.
The goal is to create knowledge about
mechanisms of Food Systems and to understand interlinkages and interconnections
of different systems. The leading question is how can we change the linear into
a circular system that encloses concrete ideas of how to start a change with
something in our everyday life.
What you'll learn
- Learn more about terms we are using in our everyday vocabulary without knowing the dimensions which are behind the
terms.
- Make visible that we are part of systems and so are able to influence them.
- Start critical thinking about us as part of several systems and showing options for taking action as part of the systems.
- Show interlinkages and interconnections of systems.
